I Love That You Bought Me a Star
#1,000 I Love That You Bought Me a Star
Once, I believed you hung the moon.
I looked up above and I thought of you.
I saw the night sky, finding your star,
I felt closer to you even though we were far.
I wished many nights, on the small bright light.
Praying that you would make it home alright.
Dreaming of the day you'd arrive back to me,
Hoping, thinking, about what would be.
But the star was only a farce, so it seems.
As I was the only one holding on to what it could mean.
The distance I hoped that it would close,
Was only a dream that I would truly hold.
"Too many to count"- It's the answer to the total number of stars.
But also the number of secret lovers, I now know that there are.
You said, "I love that you bought me {one}". It was a number on your list.
A special thing that I gave you as a stary eyed gift.
To honor you, tell you that you were the universe to me.
But you didn't feel the same way, that is clear now, I can see.
Was I just a game, a far too long play?
Or was I someone that you believed could actually stay?
When you left and had forsaken my wish on a star
Did you truly show me the person that you are?
And even now I still dream and look up to the sky,
But I don't look at it the same way because of all of the lies.
And the tricks.
And the games.
And the gaslighting.
And the names.
Now as time goes on - your star fades.
I don't see it as brightly. Only sad, pathetic shades
Of white and yellow- just like you.
Knowing there is nothing else that I have left to prove.
I gave it all - like in the burning ball that I bought.
Ignited by my belief in love - even if you
did not.
